Bill McDonald, MEd, ATC

Bill McDonald began his career as an athletic trainer and assistant basketball coach at Clarkston (GA) High School from 1968-71.  From there he took on a position as Consulting Athletic Trainer for the Cobb County School System and Athletic Trainer for Wheeler High School from 1971-72.  Bill joined the athletic training staff at Georgia Tech in 1974 and remained with the Yellow Jackets for 15 years until 1987, when he returned to The University of Alabama as Head Athletic Trainer.  Mr. McDonald served in this capacity until 1998 when he became Director of Sports Medicine within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.  In 2001 he was named the coordinator of on-campus clinical experiences for the ATEP.   

Bill serves as an adjunct faculty member and clinical instructor within the ATEP and is a member of the ATEP Selection Committee.  He is active within the Alabama Athletic Trainers' Association, the Southeastern Athletic Trainers' Association and the SEC Sports Medicine Committee.  Mr. McDonald is also involved with the Athletic Training Emergency Care continuing education course.  In 2000 Bill was selected as a recipient of the NATA's Distinguished Athletic Trainer award, the second highest honor within the organization.
