Emphasis is on the creative use of advanced software, awareness of industry trends, and the development of an original portfolio of digitally produced designs. OBJECTIVES 1. To understand a textile designer’s approach to design, the design process and two-dimensional design fundamentals 2. To learn to create designs specifically adapted to textile design 3. To apply the elements and principles of design to textile design 4. To learn the techniques used in the textile industry today 5. To use a hands-on approach to explore several textile design techniques 6. Acquire knowledge and skill in the use of computer hardware and software and the application to apparel and interior design and production 7. Demonstrate proficiency in computer-aided apparel and interior design applications 8. Demonstrate an awareness of the interrelationship of environment and man COURSE POLICIES COURSE POLICIES AND LABORATORY REQUIREMENTS Regular class attendance is required. It is important to have your work in-progress checked by the instructor. It will be necessary to work on your projects outside of the scheduled class time. The computer lab located in Adams will be open for your convenience. Check the computer lab schedule for days/times.
1. Be on time. Class will begin on time each day. Students who enter the classroom after class has commenced will be considered tardy. With only one classroom entrance, and a full classroom, late arrivals will cause disruptions. Please plan to be punctual. 2. Be present. There are no free absences in this course. Please read the foregoing sentence again. You may miss class only for good cause. If you have any questions about the course requirements, please feel free to inquire. Please do not assume to your detriment.

final grade will be reduced 1 letter grade for each additional absence.
This course policy is

negotiable and will be
strictly enforced.
Every student is required to attend ALL classes. A student may miss class only for good cause, such as:
(a)
sickness which disables the student from attending class or poses a
significant threat to the health of others,
(e) deadlines for extra-curricular activities or other course assignments do not constitute good cause for missing class.
If absent, you are responsible for acquiring all materials (handouts, notes, etc.) missed BEFORE returning to the next class. It is recommended that you create an arrangement with another student to accomplish this end. MISSED handouts must be picked up from the instructor by arrangement.
PERSONAL ELECTRONICS
No cell
phones/beepers - turn them off before entering the classroom and, no
personal music devices are allowed in the classroom.
Students with disabilities need to register with the Office of Disability Services, 348-4285. After initial arrangements are made with that office, you are invited to schedule an appointment with me during my office hours to discuss accommodations and other needs you may have.
