CTD 241 Apparel Construction

Credit Hours:  3 

 

Course Description

Introduction to apparel producer/retailer relationships.  Emphasis is on quality control and time management in meeting apparel specifications through application of apparel construction, fitting, and pattern alteration principles.  Two laboratories, 3 hours credit.

Course Objectives

1.                  Develop an appreciation for the interdependent relationships which exist between producers and retailers of apparel.

2.                  Develop an understanding of the importance of construction quality control to the success of the apparel manufacturer.

3.                  Underscore the crucial nature of time management and delivery dates to the success of ongoing relationships within the fashion industry.

4.                  Understand the principles, practices and implementation of Total Quality that are necessary in the textile and apparel industry to satisfy customers in terms of both products and services.

5.                  Understand the structure of basic textiles.

6.                  Demonstrate understanding of the interrelationships among fibers, yarn structure, fabric structure, finishing, and coloring techniques; and recognize the importance of these relationships in the selection, use and care of fabrics.

7.                  Demonstrate ability to evaluate garments objectively on the basis of acceptable retail quality standards.

8.                  Execute basic pattern alterations required to achieve a properly fitted garment.

9.                  Demonstrate ability to use current technologies applicable to the textile and apparel industries.

10.              Understand three-dimensional design fundamentals.

11.              Demonstrate skill in unit construction and speed sewing.

12.              Demonstrate ability to recognize various garment styles and construction details.
