CSM 101 CONSUMERS AND TECHNOLOGY

Credit Hours:  3 hrs.

 

Course Description

This course features the use of basic applications of the computer, including word processing, database, electronic presentation, Internet searching, and fundamental computer operations.

Course Objectives

The student will develop cognitive competencies and/or skills as indicated:

Outcomes

·              Develop products incorporating word processing, databases, and spreadsheets in appropriate activities for different knowledge domains.

·              Develop five products in Word that conform to acceptable styles and demonstrating the major features of a word processor's capability.

·              Create an original spreadsheet appropriate for use in managing specific content using numerical data, text headings and titles, and formulas. Formulas should include add, subtract, multiply, divide, average and fine percents.

·              Organize a database into the necessary fields of information.

·              Create a database, enter the data, and format the file.

·              Create a report from the data using a set of rules. 

·              Create at least two comprehensive databases complete with saved queries.

·              Develop an electronic presentation that incorporates the major features including different forms of graphics, animations, and transitions.

·              Evaluate and recommend Web sites for inclusion as references for specific major fields of study. 

·              Use email to effectively meet course requirements including attachment of files.

·              Launch software and identify which software is running.

·              Locate software and files on the hard drive.

·              Name and save files.

·              Create folders and name them.

·              Create, retrieve and print a document.

·              Enhance a file using graphics tools.

·              Edit and format a document using copy, paste, cut, spell check, change fonts, size, style menus.

·              Create headers, footers, page numbers, and a signature file.
