Child Life Internship Procedures |
|||||||||||
|
1. After a student has been accepted into the Child Life Program (60-90hours, minimum of 12 HD hours, 2.5 GPA, and application), the student meet with child life advisor. Meeting with child life advisor includes a discussion of: a. Career goals b. Internship goals c. Possible internship sites
2. Child life internships are 12 credit hours and all classes must be completed before the internship semester.
3. The internship site book is available from the Child Life Council (www.childlife.org), from the HD secretary's office, and/or from the child life advisor.
4. Student pursues contacts with possible internship sites, receives and assembles application packet for 2 or more hospitals.
5. Applications to hospital programs are due the semester prior to the internship on the following dates:
September 5 for Spring semester January 5 for Summer semester June 5 for Fall semester
6. Internships are competitive and require an interview(s) by phone or in person.
7. Hospitals often require 100 practicum or volunteer hours prior to applying to their child life program.
8. Student makes an appointment with the child life advisor after a confirmed internship placement to discuss: a. Responsibilities b. Scheduling c. Medical prerequisites (TB test, CPR, etc.)
9. After acceptance to a child life internship program, the student attends the mandatory meeting at the end of the semester before internship to review requirements. |
