After dinner, Dean Boschung continued the program by recognizing our leadership team, the HES Leadership Board, and our retired faculty. She spoke about the significance of our donors' philanthropy in the lives of our students and the importance of "paying it forward". Kaitlyn Jacoby, a current child life major, then gave an emotional address on behalf of all the recipients about the impact scholarships have on young lives. Amy Baker-Parton, our development officer, gave a brief overview of each scholarship and a heartfelt thanks to all those who make them possible.
Dean Boschung then closed out the program with the words of Dr. George Denny, former President of the University of Alabama, "This university is your university. Its single ambition is to serve. Give it your loyalty, your support, and your benediction. Give it a chance to serve with ever-increasing energy and power. Alabama will inevitably be judged in the eyes of mankind by its University rather than its factories and furnaces. From this historic spot will radiate, ever more and more, the impulse and inspiration that will distinguish us as a people who live not by bread alone—as a people who reckon the things of the mind and the things of the spirit as of importance in the balance sheet of a nation."
