The University of Alabama College of Human Environmental Sciences presented the Jack Davis Professional Achievement Awards during the 2017 HES Homecoming Convocation. The award was established to honor Dr. Lewis Clifton, "Jack" Davis, a Tuscaloosa dentist and a pioneer in establishing the importance of nutrition in dentistry. Dr. Davis was also the first male graduate of the CHES nutrition program. The awards are presented annually to outstanding CHES alumni for their professional accomplishments. The college has awarded the honor to more than 200 alumni since its inception in 1986. This year's honorees include Brian Baney, Kim Fryar, Meredith McBrearty. Jamie Preskitt, Christine Reedy-Lewis, Candice Rosenkranz, Carol Sanders, Paige Stephenson, Anna Threadcraft, Christopher Williams, and Ron Williams, Jr. ![]() Kim Fryar, of Austin Texas, serves as the program director and senior child life specialist for Wonders and Worries, a non-profit organization with a mission to provide professional support for children dealing with a parent's illness. Fryar earned her bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Science from the University of Alabama. She also holds a Master of Education from the University of North Texas. Fryar was honored for her outstanding professional achievement in the area of human development and family studies. ![]() Meredith McBrearty, of Atlanta, is the owner of Meredith McBrearty Interiors, a firm she established in spring 2009. McBrearty's work has been featured in Décor, Traditional Home, Lonny and Southern Home magazines. D Home, Dallas/Fort Worth’s Home and Garden Magazine named her in their list of “Best Designers in Dallas” in 2016. McBrearty received her bachelor’s degree from The University of Alabama in 2002. McBrearty was honored for her outstanding professional achievement in the area of interior design. ![]() Candice Rosenkranz, of Nashville, is employed by Creative Artists Agency. Rosenkranz is recognized for her ability to provide operational oversight of recruiting events and operations at collegiate level championship programs. She has been with CAA since September 2015. She received her bachelor’s degree in marketing and her Master of Science in sport management from The University of Alabama. Rozenkranz was honored for her outstanding professional achievement in the area of sports business management. ![]() Carol Sanders, of Tuscaloosa, is an account manager with The VAL Group in Birmingham, which provides concierge service to hospitals, corporations, government agencies and other businesses. As an account manager, Sanders conducts pre-arrival interviews with candidates to create a custom itinerary for their visit. She received her bachelor’s degree in public relations from The University of Alabama in 1984 and her master’s in general human environmental sciences from UA in 1997. Sanders was honored for her outstanding professional achievement in the area of hospitality management. ![]() Paige Stephenson, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, serves as the president and CEO of the United Way of Piedmont in Spartanburg. In this role, Stephenson leads a 25-employee organization that raises almost $5 million in corporate and individual financial support and generates $35.7 million in economic impact. She received her bachelor’s degree in consumer economics from The University of Alabama in 1989 and her master’s degree in consumer sciences from UA in 1993. Stephenson was honored for his outstanding professional achievement in the area of consumer sciences. ![]() Anna Threadcraft, of Birmingham, is a registered dietitian and nutritionist who serves as the employee wellness director at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Threadcraft previously worked as a corporate wellness specialist at Regions Bank, which was named one of the “Top 100 Healthiest Employers in the Country” during her tenure. She attained her bachelor’s in human environmental sciences at The University of Alabama in 2005. Threadcraft was honored for her outstanding professional achievement in the area of human nutrition and hospitality management. ![]() Christopher Williams, of Bartlett, Tennessee, is the infrastructure manager of Landau Uniforms, a $100 million healthcare and food service apparel manufacturer. He is responsible for developing goals, objectives and unit plans for information technology strategy as well as designing the backup strategy to ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster. He earned his master’s degree in interactive technology from The University of Alabama. Williams was honored for his outstanding professional achievement in the area of interactive technology. ![]() Dr. Ron Williams, of San Marcos, Texas, is an associate professor in the department of health and human performance at Texas State University. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon, where he teaches lifestyle and functional medicine. Williams received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana and his Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Alabama in 2006. Williams was honored for his outstanding professional achievement in the area of health science. Baney, with Harbor City Physical Therapy in Indialantic Florida; Reedy-Lewis, with Ralph Lauren in Alpharetta, Georgia; and Preskitt, with Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta Georgia, were unable to attend. They were honored for achievements in Athletic Training, Fashion Retailing, and Apparel Design respectively.
