Certificates of Specializations

Part Time Job Oportunities

Certificates of Specialization are now available in Hospitality Human Resources Management, Club Management, Rooms Division Management and Food and Beverage Management.

Each area of specialization requires the completion of five courses completed on-line, over the internet, or taken through traditional classroom instruction. Individuals receive 12 credit hours from the University of Alabama which may be applied toward a baccalaureate degree in Restaurant and Hospitality Management.  Certificates of Specialization are awarded from the American Hotel and Lodging Association upon satisfactory completion of course requirements.

Qualified individuals may also be interested in the Executive in Restaurant and Hospitality Management program (ExRHM). Go to exrhm.ua.edu to learn more about this program.

     Human Resources Management Specialization

  • Understanding Hospitality Law

    

Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS)

If you currently supervise two or more hospitality employees, are employed full-time as a qualifying supervisor* in the hospitality industry, and have served in one or more such positions for a minimum of three (3) months you can become a Certified Hospitality Supervisor by simply completing RHM 356: Human Resources Management or RHM 251:  Hospitality Employee Supervision on-line and taking the Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS) certification exam.

*A qualified supervisor is an individual who supervises two or more individuals; has job duties that are at least 20% supervisory in nature and which include such tasks as scheduling, training, interviewing, disciplining, inspecting, and conducting performance reviews; makes decision and judgment calls while performing daily duties; and has input on hiring and firing decision within a department.
