Crenshaw Leadership Academy

Purpose

Established in 2005, the mission of the College of Human Environmental Sciences’ Crenshaw Leadership Academy (CLA) is to provide a venue for leadership development for 19 upper level CHES majors annually.  Working through simulations, readings, discussions, seminars, and team activities, faculty-selected participants learn to think creatively, communicate effectively, motivate and influence others, act ethically, use competent business and social etiquette skills, and make constructive community-oriented decisions.

Program Requirements

The CLA is an annual retreat workshop for 19 faculty-selected upper level CHES majors.  Each CHES department is responsible for selecting three students, totaling 15.  The selection criterion is at the discretion of the faculty in each department.  The four student-body elected CHES Council of Presidents officers will complete the group of 19.

Retreat

In the spring semester, the group will travel to an off-campus site for one night and two days.  A month prior to the event, readings and other assignments will be distributed.  During the retreat, students will network with invited recognized practitioner leaders and participate in leadership development activities.   Upon completion of the program, each student will receive a leadership certificate.

Funding

Funding is generously provided by the CHES Leadership Board.
