Agencies under the United Way are in desperate need of masks as they continue to work with the public. Having one could help slow the spread of COVID-19.
If you can sew from home, please consider making face coverings.
If you need materials, CHES will provide two to three yards of fabric in ziplock bag. These material kits can be picked up from a bin located inside the front door of the United Way of West Alabama.
Monday – Friday 9:00am – 4:00pm
2720 6th Street
Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Please wash and dry fabric once received. There are numerous methods and videos available online for creating face masks. We have been making masks out of 8” X 8” squares of fabric.
Elastic and trim will become available in kits once more is located. In the meantime, any strong trim or self-made ties can also be used. Material will be replenished every Wednesday as needed.
You are welcome to use your own material/trim if preferred.
Once completed, place masks back in ziplock bags and drop off inside the front door of the United Way building.
If you are interested in constructing face masks, please email Brian Taylor (btaylor@ches.ua.edu) in order for us to keep up with volunteers and number of masks constructed.
United Way will allocate completed masks to their most needed agencies. The agencies will clean masks once received.
We appreciate your willingness to serve during this time.
